Financial impact of the caregiver projects

People may remember that a couple of months ago I asked for examples of the financial impact supporting caregivers may have on local systems. I recall that during the Gathering one of the projects mentioned that they believed that the caregivers they were serving had delayed placing care recipients in nursing homes for six months or more. Does anyone have hard data of that sort?

Hi Folks, it has been a number of months since I raised this topic. A number of you have posted your results, thank you! A number of you have not yet. Please post, or send to me, any information you have regarding the financial impact of your projects. Thanks!
In Maine, we estimate that our project has saved approximatedly $2,849,099 in nursing home costs over the course of the project. This is a very conservative estimate since it is based on our follow-up surveys which only track caregivers over the course of 4 months. These figures are based on nursing home costs in Maine which currently average $192.59/day.

Return on investment: Every $1 Weinberg put into the project has resulted in $4.38 in nursing home cost savings.

I am pleased to report the following financial impact of the Sarasota CARES project as of July 1, 2012 data:

Using data estimates from the Federal Long Term Care Cost of Care per Area calculation of Sarasota County average costs : Home Health Aide = $20.00/ hr;
Nursing Home Monthly cost = $6,844

Respite care was provided for 10,543 hours = $210,860
Averted Nursing Home Costs for 99 months = $677,531

TOTAL = $888,391
Thanks Kathy, all of this data is very encouraging. Please folks let's hear from the rest of you, either on here or privately. Thanks, Michael
Thanks Lorraine and Pam. I hope during the next few weeks all of your colleagues will also post their own results.
Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands volunteers have provided over 6000 hours of respite care valued at $90,000.

The potentially avoidable nursing home costs attributable to Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands program are estimated to be between $4,230,416 - $5,112,920 . This means that for every dollar spent in WHHH program we save the public $15 in nursing home costs alone.
