The Weinberg Foundation has announced the results of the 7th annual community-wide Book Drive in support of the Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project.
This year, more than $18,000 was collected through online and cash donations that will be used to purchase nearly 2,400 brand new, hardcover children’s books for this year’s soon-to-be renovated school library at James McHenry Elementary/Middle School. The Weinberg Foundation has committed $10 million, of the total $30 million investment by all project partners, to build or transform up to 24 Baltimore City Public School libraries in an effort to strengthen academic achievement among students.
The Baltimore Library Project is a multi-year, collaborative effort to design, build, equip, and staff new or renovated elementary/middle school libraries in selected schools where existing funds can be leveraged. To date, the Foundation and its more than 30 partners have completed 14 of these new spaces serving more than 6,000 students and their families.
