Weinberg Foundation celebrates grand openings representing start of major citywide children’s initiative

Summer Reads LogoThe Weinberg Foundation, along with The Johns Hopkins University School of Education, recently celebrated the grand opening of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Early Childhood Center, an innovative space – and the first of five such centers that will be created within Baltimore City Schools– designed to care for infants and educate children up to age five.

Summer Reads LogoThe Weinberg Early Childhood Center, located in the Henderson-Hopkins School in East Baltimore, will focus on children, birth to age five, their families, and the community. The Center includes a family support center and health and wellness suite, ensuring that the young children there will have the support and services they need to reinforce the development of their language, literacy, and math readiness skills.

During the event, the Weinberg Foundation also celebrated the grand openings of Henderson-Hopkins’ new library, in addition to new spaces at three other schools, created as part of the Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project. The other newly renovated libraries include Morrell Park Elementary/Middle, Windsor Hills Elementary/Middle, and Harford Heights Elementary. As of this month, a total of nine Weinberg Library sites are open and serving more than 5,000 students thanks to the support of more than 40 Library Project partners.

The dual grand opening celebration took place on Wednesday, September 10 at the Henderson-Hopkins School. To see the videos highlighting both the new Early Childhood Center as well as the latest libraries, visit the Weinberg Foundation’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/HJWeinbergFoundation.
