Purpose: To strengthen the effectiveness of nonprofit agencies which serve disadvantaged members of the community.
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Fellows Program
From the beginning, The Foundation has carried out its mission of
assisting the poor and vulnerable by strengthening community
organizations that serve people in need. In 1992, The Foundation opened
a second front in this effort with the inauguration of its Weinberg Fellows
Program. Beginning in Hawaii and expanding into Baltimore in 2002, the Program
aims at enhancing the skills and effectiveness of executive directors and
key volunteer leaders of nonprofit organizations that serve The Weinberg
Foundation's target populations.
Coming together in a collaborative, supportive environment, participants explore critical issues and trends in nonprofit management; develop common understandings of standards and best practices; connect with a rich network of resources; and work on positioning their agencies for maximum benefit to their communities. Weinberg Fellows meet and form long-term relationships with their peers and develop enduring cross-agency and cross-sector partnerships.
The Program typically consists of live-in sessions featuring interactive panel discussions and presentations that cover the full spectrum of executive director roles, responsibilities, and key relationships. Break-out sessions focus on the challenges and opportunities facing individual participants and their agencies.
The Weinberg Fellows Program complements The Weinberg Foundation's grant-making
process by enhancing the effectiveness of The Foundation's partners. The
result is a network of leaders working to improve the quality of life for
poor and disadvantaged people in Hawaii and Baltimore.
