Goals for Food Insecurity and Hunger

The Foundation's primary focus in its food insecurity and hunger portfolio is to fund organizations that have a national focus in their technical assistance or food rescue and/or distribution in both the U.S. and Israel.
The Foundation's secondary focus is to fund local food banks and soup kitchens primarily in its home communities in the State of Maryland, DC, Northeast Pennsylvania and Hawaii. Projects outside of these areas will have to demonstrate uniqueness and potential for replication in order to be considered for funding.
Special consideration will be given to programs that:
- Verify income eligibility
- encourage self-sufficiency among the poor and are an adjunct to other programs aiming to build self-sufficiency such as workforce development or education programs.
- provide fresh food (fruit, fish and other alternatives to packaged goods)
- focus special attention on early childhood (0-2), children and seniors
- make nutritional education available (food pyramids, basic cooking skills, shopping techniques, food safety and other topics designed to help client improve general nutrition) so that participants can become more knowledgeable when making independent food choices.
