Frequently Asked Questions

Q. With respect to geographic eligibility, will applications only be accepted from applicants located in the Foundation’s hometown areas such as New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Hawaii, and Israel?

A. No, this is a national initiative, applications will be accepted from eligible organizations, agencies, or government units located in any US state or territory.

Q. What is the definition of a geographic area?

A. An acceptable geographic area depends on the feasibility of a particular collaboration, and whether the proposed Project makes sense given the potential complexity of managing a large geographic area and population. A geographic area may not include an entire state, and we urge caution when seeking to propose a Project including an entire city or urban county. In addition, the applicant must demonstrate that the proposed geographic area has a population 15% or more of whom are age 55 years and older.

Q. What is the relative importance of system building and caregiving as it relates to the Program?

A. A guideline ratio may be 20% system building (creating community partnerships) and 80% serving caregivers directly for the purposes of the Caregiver Support Program.

Q. Will the Program support projects centered on kinship care/grand-families?

A. The Caregiver Support Program is directed towards caregivers of older adults. If a project is primarily geared towards caregivers of older adults and minimally focused on kinship care/grand-families, it may be a good match for the Program.

However, please note that this initiative only accounts for 8% of the Foundation’s total giving in the area of Older Adult Services. There is always the option of applying through the Foundation’s regular grant process if your Project does not meet the Caregiver Support Program’s criteria.

Q. Will the income of the caregivers be considered?

A. Yes, consideration will be given to the income of caregivers. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation focuses on individuals and families with low and moderate incomes. Any grant made as part of the Family and Informal Caregiver Support Program must serve individuals with low and moderate incomes.

Q. How committed of a collaboration must an applicant have?

A. A project made up of a single organization will not be funded. An organization may use the first year of the Foundation’s grant to build its collaboration.

Q. Can I use Program funds to match another grant?

A. No.

Q. Are state agencies, universities, and hospitals, as well as their supported agencies eligible for the Program?

A. No, such entities are not eligible for the Program, but are strongly encouraged to partner with local community organizations which are eligible. Please see the Program’s “Eligibility Criteria” listed on page 8 of the RFP brochure, which you may download by selecting the second hyperlink embedded on this webpage.

Please join us for the Program’s telephone conferences on April 30 and May 8, instructions for joining in the conferences can be found elsewhere on this webpage. If you are planning on participating in the telephone conference and have questions you would like answered at that time please send them to caregivingRFP@theweinbergfoundation .org beforehand.
