Mission: To reduce interpersonal conflict and community violence and animosity by increasing the use of non-violent conflict resolution strategies and by making mediation more accessible in Baltimore City.
Summary of Programs and Services (see legend): C, FC, LG, S, Y, Other (community-based conflict resolution)
Description of Programs and Services: Community Mediation Program provides free mediation services in every neighborhood in Baltimore City. Through partnerships with over 130 community organizations, we mediate many disputes before they turn violent or enter the justice system. In addition, we mediate disputes for which civil or criminal charges have already been filed, as an empowering alternative to the courts. Our services are neutral, confidential and voluntary, and are provided entirely by a highly skilled group of over 140 trained volunteer mediators who live and mediate in the neighborhoods where the disputes occur. In addition we provide conflict resolution training across the city, not only to low-income community groups, but also to every police cadet hired in Baltimore City, many school officials and all school police, as well as the staffs of other nonprofits.
Total number of people served: 3,341
