Mission: The mission of Marian House is to identify women with the potential for productive living from among homeless, unemployed, and otherwise troubled populations, with emphasis on women coming from incarceration; to nurture self-esteem in these women; and to teach the skills that will empower them to attain emotional and economic independence. The goal of the Marian House program is to enable women to achieve and maintain emotional, economic, and housing stability. Our vision is for formerly homeless women to become independent, responsible and productive members of the community.

Description of Programs and Services: Marian House offers clients a safe, structured home life and a goals-oriented program of personal counseling, education and employment assistance. Housing and services are provided in two distinct phases - an initial program and a follow-up program (Marian House II). The initial program, which lasts 4 to 8 months, serves individual women only and provides: private rooming, daily living assistance, meals, transportation, personal counseling, job counseling, basic job opportunities (including GED tutoring), drug/alcohol screening, addiction recovery supervision, peer support network, financial guidance and a savings program. The follow-up program provides supportive housing for individual women and women with children for a period of 6 months to 2 years. Marian House II services include: case management, employment advancement assistance, job mentoring, workshops in self-development, scholarship aid, support in achieving family reunification, parent coaching, and assistance in obtaining permanent housing. The dual-phase approach enables Marian House to accommodate clients' gradually increasing abilities and autonomy.

Total number of people served: approximately 900
