Mission: The mission of BBBSCM is to bring boys and girls from Baltimore City and the five surrounding counties, who are in need of positive male or female role models together with professionally assessed and dedicated adult volunteers, with the goal of developing mutually fulfilling relationships that benefit the development and general well-being of the child. These mentoring services are provided free-of-charge to primarily single parent families and their children without regard to sex, race, ethnicity, financial status or religious affiliation.

Summary of Programs and Services (see legend): E, FC, M, Y

Description of Programs and Services: Community One-To-One is the class program model where children are paired with caring adults according to common interests, compatible personalities and convenient distance from each other. In the Bigs in School program, one-to-one mentoring, based on the developmental asset model, is applied in academic settings where volunteers and Littles meet for one hour weekly throughout the school year. The time together is typically spent 50 percent on relationship building activities and 50 percent on academics related to the individual child's needs. Bigs and Littles also have the opportunity to convert or "roll over" into the Community One-To-One program. Site Programming is one-to-one mentoring based on the developmental asset model, which is applied at local community sites, colleges, clubs, etc. Meetings usually occur on the weekends or after school with more emphasis on community service activities. The Developmentally Disabled School Program's goal is to provide meaningful, one-on-one friendships to children with disabilities and to encourage social competencies, positive identities, give emotional support and help with future job skills. Upon graduation, it is Big Brothers Big Sisters' goal to help each youth function independently with as little government support as possible. AMACHI - Baltimore: People of Faith Mentoring Children of Promise is a unique program to address the social and academic problems that children of prisoners face. AMACHI-Baltimore will combine the expertise of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Maryland with the compassion of people of faith in a partnership to help children of prisoners grow as confident, competent, and caring individuals.
