Kate Sorestad has been at the Foundation since May 2011. In January 2018, she became Program Director for Priority Communities at the Weinberg Foundation. In this role, Kate works with the trustees who are located in Chicago, San Francisco, and Northeastern Pennsylvania in order to develop and execute place-based strategies for each location.
Prior to her current role, Kate developed and managed the Foundation’s grants portfolio serving veterans and their families. In addition, she has overseen grants made to organizations in Northeastern Pennsylvania for the last six years, and she previously managed the General Community Support portfolio. Kate also coordinated the first 15 libraries associated with the Weinberg Foundation’s Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project, a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative to transform Baltimore City Public Schools libraries.
Before coming to the Foundation, Kate worked in the nonprofit field for six years, most recently as a Mentoring Coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Kate received her BA at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada and graduated with her master’s in public policy with a concentration in management finance leadership and a focus in nonprofit management from The University of Maryland in May 2012.
