Weinberg Foundation Plans to Distribute Nearly $99 Million in Grants This Year

The Weinberg Foundation today welcomed nearly 1,000 community, civic, and business leaders to its Annual Community Gathering. This program celebrates the Foundation’s mission, partnerships, and accomplishments of the past year. The event included remarks by Spencer Kympton, President of The Mission Continues. The Mission Continues reintegrates veterans who are adjusting to life outside the military by engaging them in the work of strengthening communities from within.

Kympton’s remarks highlighted the Foundation’s newest area of giving—supporting military members and their families. Grants made within this portfolio emphasize programs focused on workforce development, physical and mental health, and the elimination of barriers, including free legal services to veterans for discharge status updates.

The program also included an announcement, from Rachel Garbow Monroe, Weinberg Foundation President and CEO, regarding the event itself:

“As you can imagine, a gathering like this is not inexpensive, and not easy to do well. We ask each of you to come out every year and join us, which we appreciate and hope you enjoy, but we also understand how busy you are. So, in an effort to respect your time, and put as much of the Foundation’s funds to work for grants rather than expenses, I am very pleased to announce that our next gathering like this will be in November 2018. Two years from now.” Monroe added, “We will begin hosting these events every two years, rather than every year.”
