Reflections on Colleyville: When grants have even greater significance

Over the past three years, the Weinberg Foundation has been compelled to publicly respond to various acts of antisemitism, racial violence, and injustice through a series of statements shared externally and posted on the Foundation’s website. Sadly, tragically, the nation continues to experience traumas rooted in these cancers of the heart and soul. Most recently, on Saturday, January 15—as we prepared to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy of peaceful protest, activism, and change in the face of racism and oppression—a gunman took four people hostage at Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas during Shabbat/Sabbath prayer services. 

 

However, actions that helped to safely deliver the Colleyville hostages provide a measure of hope and affirmation.

Weinberg Foundation grants $3 million to Ogen—expands CDFI initiative to Israel

The Foundation is excited to partner with Ogen, a nonprofit social-finance fund in Israel, to support its growth as one of the first financial intermediaries in Israel helping nonprofits achieve their missions through equitable access to capital. Ogen is committed to improving financial inclusion and opportunity in Israel by providing affordable loans and financial mentoring for nonprofits, small businesses, and individuals who are not served by mainstream financial institutions or government programs. More specifically, this partnership will build capacity for Ogen’s Social Loan Fund by providing affordable and flexible loans for nonprofits in Israel to address cash flow challenges caused by the continued economic impacts of COVID-19.

Have you had a chance to explore the Foundation’s new, interactive two-part website feature yet? The online grants database features selected grants of $50,000 or more approved since 2018. This new database allows you to search by organization name or keyword, as well as filter by focus area, priority community, year, grant type, and more.
