One year ago, wildfires devastated the island of Maui, killing over 100 people; displacing thousands; and destroying the historic district of Lahaina. The road to recovery is long, but several grassroots organizations are demonstrating that the people who call Maui home are critical guides, leading the way to ensure the safety, stability, and well-being of the island’s diverse communities today — and casting a vision for restoring Lahaina to a place where land and people may flourish once more.
