Weinberg Foundation rural grantmaking findings and shift in focus

In 2021, the Foundation began a review of its rural grantmaking framework and funding priorities, in order to reflect and respond to the needs of rural communities that we serve.  The Foundation conducted 40 interviews with a diverse set of leaders in rural areas across the country and reviewed more than 100 sources addressing issues related to rural America and vulnerable populations residing therein. The Foundation remains committed to supporting rural initiatives within, or near, its priority communities because of longstanding barriers to accessing financial resources and services in these regions.

Baltimore Summer Funding Collaborative announces $5.3 million for programs serving children and youth

The Baltimore Summer Funding Collaborative (the Collaborative) has awarded $5.3 million in grants to support 93 high-quality summer programs serving children and youth living in low-income families throughout Baltimore City. The Foundation is growing in every way, including staffing and more funding to nonprofits

The Weinberg Foundation is one of the largest private charitable foundations in the United States. However, the Foundation’s roots are quite modest. Increased assets provide the means for increased grantmaking, which in turn requires more skilled professionals to properly administer and manage the additional grants. Here is how all of this has played out at the Weinberg Foundation within a span of just five years.

Today, approximately 25 percent of the Foundation’s approximately $140 million in annual grantmaking supports direct service providers in Greater Baltimore, operating across all of the Foundation’s focus areas: Housing, Health, Jobs, Education, and Community Services.

The Foundation has just completed a summary of selected grants in Baltimore, 2019 through 2021. Please click here to explore this summary, which is also posted on the Foundation’s website under “Resources” and “Publications.”
