Fallstaff Elementary/Middle celebrates grand opening of new school library

The Weinberg Foundation, and its more than 30 Library Project partners, recently celebrated the grand opening of the 17th library renovated as part of the Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project. This newly renovated space, located at Fallstaff Elementary/Middle School, will serve more than 460 students. Speakers for the grand opening celebration included Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott; Dr. Sonja Santelises, CEO, Baltimore City Public Schools; and Faith Hibbert, Principal, Fallstaff Elementary/Middle.

Fallstaff Elementary/Middle School in Upper Park Heights serves students from pre-kindergarten through grade eight. The student population has grown by 18 percent over the last five years. Fallstaff focuses on college and career preparedness and believes that “The race to excellence begins with a book!”

The Foundation has committed $15 million to this multi-year, collaborative effort to build or transform Baltimore City Public School libraries in neighborhoods where many students face academic and economic challenges. By 2024, the Library Project will serve nearly 9,000 students, as well as their families, through 19 new libraries (17 completed to date) and will have leveraged more than $30 million in additional federal, state, and local funds.
