Nearly $3 million in recent new Hawai‘i grants announced

The Weinberg Foundation recently approved $2.9 million in Hawai‘i-specific grants  supporting the areas of Housing, Health, Jobs, Education, and Community Services. This does not include COVID-19 emergency grants, which are updated regularly on our website. Organizations marked with an asterisk are featured here with more information.

Housing

Stable housing provides a foundation for individuals, children, and families to lead healthy and productive lives. Without housing, people are unable to focus on education, employment, health care, and meeting other basic needs.

Institute for Human Services*
Honolulu, HI
$600,000 operating grant to support the general operations of this organization, which provides comprehensive services for families exiting homelessness and to establish an evaluation process for family and children’s interventions and outcomes. https://ihsHawai‘i.org/

Health

Good health is essential to help people move and remain out of poverty. Poor physical or mental health can prevent or complicate the pursuit of education, employment, and other opportunities for economic mobility.
 
Hawai‘i Good Food Alliance*
Throughout Hawai‘i
$750,000 operating grant to support the general operations of this organization, which works to ensure rural areas and food deserts can build healthy food systems that support improved health outcomes for vulnerable populations. https://hifoodalliance.org/
 
Hawai‘i Public Health Institute
Honolulu, HI
$400,000 program grant to support the growth of the Kupuna Food Security Coalition into a statewide model for meeting the immediate needs of the COVID-19 food crisis while building the capacity, tools, and infrastructure for long-term recovery. https://www.hiphi.org/
 
The Kohala Center
Throughout Hawai‘i
$400,000 program grant to support this organization’s Full Calabash Fund, which provides nonprofit organizations with the resources and technical assistance necessary to partner with local food producers and feed individuals, families, and older adults. https://kohalacenter.org/

Moloka‘i ‘Ohana Health Care*
Moloka‘i, HI
$300,000 operating grant to support a collaboration between Moloka‘i Community Health Center, Moloka‘i Child Abuse Prevention Pathways, and Sustainable Moloka‘i that is working to advance community-based approaches to food security and child and family safety. http://molokaichc.org/
