Weinberg Foundation announces additional $5 million to expand and strengthen Baltimore Library Project

The Weinberg Foundation recently announced an additional $5 million in funding to support the Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project, also known as the Library Project. This grant brings the Foundation’s total commitment to this initiative to $15 million. The new funding will provide operating support for the existing 15 libraries, as well as capital funds for the development of four new libraries through 2023.

Innovative solutions to reduce youth homelessness

The Weinberg Foundation recently approved $800,000 to support a range of organizations in Baltimore and Hawai‘i implementing the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program—a two-year initiative funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to address youth homelessness in 44 communities across the country.

Updates from the National Affinity Group on Jewish Poverty

The National Affinity Group on Jewish Poverty, in partnership with the Jewish Funders Network (JFN), continues to address the issue of poverty within the Jewish community throughout the United States.

 

Most recently, the affinity group held a FedLab conference, where 38 Jewish communities—from all over North America and from cities large and small—developed action plans around poverty.

In case you missed it – Weinberg video of reflection and gratitude!

This year the Weinberg Foundation celebrates its 30th anniversary. 2020 began with excitement, including plans for a very special Biennial Community Gathering in Baltimore, as well as community gatherings in the Foundation’s priority communities of Hawaiʻi and Israel. In addition to marking its anniversary, the Foundation—as always—looked forward to celebrating its grantees and partners. Of course, the world has changed in previously unforeseeable ways.

 More than $24 million in recent new grants announced

The Weinberg Foundation recently approved more than 50 grants totaling $24 million supporting the areas of Housing, Health, Jobs, Education, and Community Services. This does not include COVID-19 emergency grants, which are updated regularly on our website.
