Weinberg Foundation commits $2.5 million to nonprofits combatting antisemitism throughout the United States

The Foundation remains committed to its core mission of meeting the basic needs of people experiencing poverty and also believes it is critically important, especially in this moment, to expand upon a long-standing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the Jewish community, including fighting hate in all of its forms.

 

This commitment includes support for national organizations focused on combatting and dismantling antisemitism and white supremacy, as well as additional security for Jewish communities. In addition, funding will support local Jewish Federations and Jewish Community Relations Councils (JCRCs) within the Foundation’s US priority communities: Baltimore, Chicago, Hawai‘i, New York City, Northeastern Pennsylvania, and San Francisco.

13 Jewish camps awarded grants in third round of $12 million Yashar initiative to increase accessibility for campers and staff with disabilities

In partnership with the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC), the Weinberg Foundation has committed a total of $12 million to the Yashar matching grants initiative, with the goal of increasing accessibility for campers and staff with disabilities. Recently, in the third round of funding, the Weinberg Foundation provided $2.6 million in capital and program grants serving 13 Jewish camps across the country. This latest round of funding is part of the Foundation's overall $12 million commitment.

Additional $4.5 million to Housing Upgrades to Benefit Seniors (HUBS) initiative will serve more than 900 older adult homes

The Foundation recently announced an additional $4.5 million in grants to nine nonprofits in Baltimore City for the continuation of the Housing Upgrades to Benefit Seniors (HUBS) initiative. This three-year project will provide home modifications and repairs—including grab bars, electrical and plumbing repairs, and roof and furnace replacements—in addition to wraparound services for more than 900 older adult homes.

Baltimore Summer Funding Collaborative announces $3.46 million for children and youth programs

The Baltimore Summer Funding Collaborative (the Collaborative) has awarded $3.46 million in grants to support 87 high-quality summer programs for children and youth living in low-income families throughout Baltimore City. The Collaborative is a partnership between public, private, and nonprofit institutions that aims to create summer program options for families, including academic support to reduce summer learning loss, youth work opportunities, and a variety of enrichment activities. The Weinberg Foundation contributed $1.4 million, of the total $3.46 million, to summer programs.

Roberta’s House celebrates opening of first bereavement center in the country founded by, and serving, the African American community

Weinberg Foundation grantee Roberta’s House recently celebrated the opening of their new Grief Support Center located in East Baltimore. 

 

This fully accessible center helps individuals and families recover and heal from loss and grief through comprehensive programs, including counseling, peer support, education, research, and holistic practices.
