In August and September, the COVID-19 Delta variant disproportionally impacted Hawaiʻi’s rural and Native Hawaiian communities. These communities also hold the key to innovative, sustainable solutions for food security, as well as health and wellness. The Weinberg Foundation was grateful to provide three grants to support emergency response, which helped secure government funding and paved the way for longer-term solutions.
Through a total of $125,000 in grants to Hawaiʻi Foodbank, Neighborhood Place of Puna, and Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, the Foundation was able to support emergency food and housing efforts for families on Oahu and Hawaiʻi Island.
In October, COVID cases in Hawaiʻi dropped significantly, and hospital systems began returning to normal capacity levels.
