Weinberg Foundation Employees Given $500,000 to be Grantmakers for a Day

The Weinberg Foundation today hosted its 10th annual Employee Giving Program. At the event, 25 employees each presented a check for $20,000 to a Maryland nonprofit consistent with the Foundation’s mission and grant guidelines. A total of $500,000 was awarded this year. More than $2.5 million has been distributed since the inception of this professional development and mission-focused effort.

Foundation employees – not including the trustees or the president – handled every step of the grant evaluation. This includes selection of the grantee, a site visit, collection and review of financials, and preparation of the final grant recommendation. The Foundation’s Board then reviewed each recommendation. The Foundation knows of no other philanthropic organization which provides its entire staff with the opportunity to engage directly in the grantmaking process.
