Program Director

Location: Israel

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is dedicated to meeting the basic needs of people experiencing poverty. Each year, the Foundation gives about $150 million in grants to nonprofits in the United States and Israel that provide direct services in the areas of Housing, Health, Jobs, Education, and Aging. Grants serve a range of individuals, including women at risk and their children, older adults, people with disabilities, and the Jewish community. The Foundation seeks individuals interested in helping to drive change in communities across the United States and Israel.


Position Summary

This program director is tasked with responsibly and effectively deploying $25 million annually in grants throughout Israel focused on providing direct services for individuals and communities experiencing poverty. This person will serve as the face of the Foundation in Israel and must represent the Foundation in a professional and respectful manner.

Please note: All candidates must be based in Israel and fluent in Hebrew and English, with excellent written and verbal skills in both languages.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Development: Lead and manage the Foundation’s Israel grantmaking by setting the grantmaking strategy, selecting appropriate grantees, and managing the portfolio.
  • Grant Management: Manage key relationships with grantees and partners in the Israel portfolio, ensure compliance with deadlines and reporting requirements, and monitor grantees in tracking and evaluating ongoing projects. Conduct in-person site visits and perform programmatic and financial due diligence for both capital and operations-related projects during the grant application review process while representing the Foundation at professional meetings and within the broader community of grantees, foundations, civic leaders, and other partners.
  • Evaluation and Learning: Evaluate the impact of grantmaking to validate the theory of change and prepare materials such as memos and presentations for various in-house meetings with staff and trustees.
  • Collaboration and Presentation: Collaborate locally and internationally with other philanthropic organizations and field experts; coordinate with staff from other portfolios as needed; and support the trustees, president and CEO, and Senior Leadership team on matters related to Israel.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience and Skills: Over 10 years of relevant experience in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector in Israel, particularly in supporting low-income and vulnerable populations. Highly-developed project management skills with a strong ability to manage a small team and comfort with fiscal reporting.
  • Collaboration and Initiative: Proven ability to work effectively with community leaders, diverse committees, and stakeholders, demonstrating strong initiative and creative problem-solving skills. Maintains flexibility and willingness to travel to the United States for three-to-five weeks each year.
  • Analysis and Communication: Excellent communication skills in both Hebrew and English, with a clear, concise writing style. Demonstrated ability to analyze data critically and process large amounts of information methodically.
  • Values and Approach: A reputation for integrity, discretion, and hard work, coupled with a spirit of kindness and humility. A creative leader who sets achievable long-term goals while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and strict confidentiality.

Search Process

Kishurim will conduct initial screenings of candidates. Selected candidates will then be invited to interview with members of the Foundation’s internal search committee. Additional Information

Approximate start date of employment: January 2026. This is a remote position with access to shared workspace as needed. This position will be expected to travel to the United States an average of four weeks annually.
