The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation hosted a delegation from Colombia on Friday, May 18 to share information about the Elementary and Middle School Library Project.

The delegation consisted of five library professionals involved in overall management and policy-making for programs and activities in both government and private libraries in Colombia, as well as two interpreters who facilitated the exchange with Weinberg Foundation staff as well as representatives for  Baltimore City Public Schools and the Library Project advisory committee. The delegates traveled to Maryland to learn more about  outreach to disadvantaged communities, charitable giving and donor support, and special collections. We appreciated their specific interest in the Weinberg’s Library Project and its overall goal of renovating school libraries in high poverty areas.

The visit by the Colombian delegates was made possible through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitors Leadership Program arranged by the Institute of International Education. The Weinberg Foundation was introduced to this program through Baltimore’s World Trade Center Institute. The State Department program strives to connect international visitors with American professionals to share best practices in their particular fields and increase mutual understanding.
