Weinberg Foundation Trustees Donn Weinberg, Barry Schloss, and Judge Ellen Heller as well as Foundation President Rachel Garbow Monroe and Foundation Chief of Staff Arlene Hayden attended the dedication ceremony celebrating the opening of a new Fisher House Tuesday, May 22. The newest Fisher House is located in Fort Belvoir, VA directly in front of the brand new Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. This most recent addition is part of the Fisher House Foundation’s network of support enabling military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization.
Since its creation in 1990, the Fisher House has created 57 comfort homes, and has provided more than four-million days of free lodging for nearly 160,000 families. It is estimated that this lodging saves families $5 million each year, or a total of $192 million since the program’s inception.
The Weinberg Foundation is proud to support the Fisher House because of its generosity and dedication to the service men and women they assist as well as their families, all of whom are in need of a helping hand, especially during a time of crisis like hospitalization. Additionally, the Weinberg Foundation commends Fisher’s goal of providing more than just housing for these families, but a home where families can share their experiences with each other.
